Scenic Vistas

Atlin, British Columbia, Canada. Atlin is a rustic, old gold-mining boom town located on beautiful Atlin Lake. There are many gold mines around and also outcrops of serpentinite, talc, both of which can contain slickensides.

Austin, Texas. Walnut creek on the way to Houston that has good fossil oysters in chalk? beds. Also located there are pyrite and gypsum samples. Makes a good hike, too. You can also wait and see the bats in downtown Austin. (E-mail me if you want to know how to get to the collecting area).

Bryce Canyon, Utah. This is a really cool place to hike around. Scenery (panoramic) like you have never seen before. If you are in this area, be sure to check out Zion Canyon too, it is WAY beautiful.

Cedar Key, Florida. This is a great place to vacation. It is an old/present day fishing community. There is very good sand dollar collecting there and also a prime spot to observe a coastal environment when the tide is out.

Juneau, Alaska, Gilkey Trench. I was on this expedition to study rocks up on the barren Icefield. Although this doesn't sound like too much fun, it was an incredible experience. You can find out more about this program.

Lake City, Colorado (not to be confused with Lake City, Florida). This is in the heart of past gold/silver mining. This area in the San Juan Mountains is beautiful!!! You can read about our hiking trip there.

The area around Moab, Utah; Arches National Park is a geologist's wonderland. It is amazing what erosion can do to the arid regions of our country. See the balanced rock.

Uncertain, Texas. Yeah, this is really the name of this 'town.' It is located on Caddo Lake, Texas' largest natural lake. The fishing is great, rock collecting is poor.
